What is… Spotdraak
The name Spotdraak was born organically — from imagination, positive influence, and lived experience. It began as a made-up word my niece created while helping me dream up a name, and it stayed because it carried a deeper truth than anything planned.
Spotdraak means “spotted dragon.”
Draak comes from European origins meaning dragon, honoring my grandmother who was a major positive influence on my up bringing. Spotted represents freckles — something I was bullied for as a child and teenager, something that once made me feel different, rejected, and out of place.
For a long time, being different felt like something to hide.
But then I found art and I found self-expression — and with it, I found myself and the courage to be seen. Art gave me a voice. That expression then turned into confidence, openness, and strength.
The spotted dragon became a symbol of embracing what makes us unique — the marks, the quirks, the traits that set us apart. It represents choosing to stand in our authentic, sometimes “weird,” sometimes misunderstood selves, and realizing that what once felt like a weakness is often the source of our greatest strength.
Spotdraak is about reclaiming identity, building thick skin without losing heart, and learning to carry fire with intention. It’s about helping young people — especially those who feel different, unseen, or misunderstood — recognize that their uniqueness is not a flaw, but a power. It’s about healing and finding our true selves.
This name holds the spirit of everything we do: embracing difference, honoring positivity, and rising strong with courage. It’s about showing the world who we are.
